A Perfect Game by Reno MacLeod5/22/2023 ![]() ![]() Highlander II received negative reviews from critics, and is considered to be one of the worst films ever made. The resulting film contradicts the established canon of Highlander, in depicting immortals as aliens, featuring the inexplicable resurrection of Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, and altering the concept of the " Quickening". The film was shot almost entirely in Argentina before and after the country's economy crashed as the local economy experienced hyperinflation, the film's investors and completion bond company took direct control of production and final edit, removing director Mulcahy and his creative influence while changing parts of the story. Set in the year 2024, the plot concerns Connor MacLeod, who regains his youth and immortal abilities and must free Earth from the Shield, an artificial ozone layer that has fallen under the control of a corrupt corporation. It is the second installment in the Highlander film series, and sequel of the 1986 fantasy film Highlander. Highlander II: The Quickening is a 1991 science fiction film directed by Russell Mulcahy and starring Christopher Lambert, Virginia Madsen, Michael Ironside and Sean Connery. ![]()

North and south gaskell novel5/22/2023 ![]() A series of short stories about a little English village and the ways people react to the industrial changes of their time. It’s a beautiful story and one of my recent favorites! My review is coming in a few weeks!Ĭranford by Elizabeth Gaskell // If you love Gaskell, read more Gaskell! This was my first experience in her writing. The story then tells the journey Isabelle and Alexander go on both healing from the accident and learning how to fall in love. Alexander and Isabelle have an arranged marriage and must also overcome a tragic accident that leaves Alexander paralyzed. Alexander owns a mill just like Mr Thornton which features in several key scenes in the book. ![]() Isabelle and Alexander by Rebecca Anderson // I just finished this novel (thanks for the ARC, Laurel!) and absolutely loved it! Weirder shadows over innsmouth5/22/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() There are also some dependably traditional migrations from Innsmouth to the UK by the likes of Ramsey Campbell and Simon Kurt Unsworth, but what really drew me into the collection were the stories where the authors went well and truly off-piste. There are two works by the master himself The Port and Innsmouth Clay, which was completed after Lovecraft’s death by his disciple August Derleth together and a few fairly straight (well as straight as weird fiction can get) pastiches by the likes of Caitlin R Kiernan and Angela Slatter for Lovecraft purists to enjoy. Within there are 17 tales of terror featuring the fishy acolytes of Dagon from Lovecraft’s little town on the Massachusetts coast that was so comprehensively trashed by the FBI and the US Navy in February 1928. ![]() Weirder Shadows over Innsmouth is the third anthology of short stories inspired by HP Lovecraft’s novella The Shadow over Innsmouth, collected by Hothouse pal Stephen Jones. ![]()
